Today, 6 of December Romanian people celebrate Saint Nicholas day. And you ask… What is this? Okey, here we are to talk about this festivity.
Yesterday, just after our usual lesson at the gym we found a surprise in our boots. There were chocolate, sweets and … a twig! One of our friends let us those presents to show us a Romanian tradition. She explained us the meaning of the gifts. We received the treats because we were good “kids” and the twig because we were not so good “kids”.
According to the tradition, the night before the children should clean their shoes and go to bed early and be in silence to receive a “special visit”. Next morning, the children that behaved well receive toys and/or sweets and the bad ones only a twig. As always, it depends on the family.
So, now we feel more involved in this super culture. Happy Saint Nicholas day to everyone! Pa pa!
